Discover more about Jeanneke Pis

Tucked away in the Impasse de la Fidélité/Getrouwheidsgang ("Fidelity Alley"), just off the bustling Rue des Bouchers, Jeanneke Pis offers a cheeky contrast to Brussels' famed Manneken Pis. Unveiled in 1987, this fountain sculpture features a bronze statue of a little girl with pigtails, caught in the act of urinating. Commissioned by restaurateur Denis-Adrien Debouvrie, Jeanneke Pis was conceived to revitalize the alley and promote gender equality. The statue is protected by iron bars, a measure taken to prevent theft. Though more recent than its male counterpart, Jeanneke Pis has become a beloved symbol of Brussels, representing the city's progressive spirit and sense of humor. Visitors often toss coins into the fountain, a tradition said to grant wishes and demonstrate affection. The collected money goes to medical research and to help impoverished people in Belgium. The alley surrounding Jeanneke Pis is now home to various establishments, including the renowned Delirium Café, known for its extensive beer selection.
