On June 29, 1980, AC/DC performed their first concert with new lead singer Brian Johnson at the Palais des Expositions (now Namur Expo) in Namur. This concert marked the beginning of the 'Back in Black' world tour and held special significance for both the band and their fans.In 2021, 41 years after that historic concert, the city of Namur honored AC/DC by naming the hemicycle-shaped square in front of Namur Expo as Esplanade AC/DC. The esplanade features a statue of Brian Johnson, sculpted by artist Anthony Cognaux, capturing the energy of his performance. Sixteen chairs surround the statue, each dedicated to a past or present member of the band. Brian Johnson himself visited the esplanade in April 2023 to inaugurate the tribute.Today, Esplanade AC/DC serves as a pilgrimage site for AC/DC fans and a cultural landmark for Namur.
