Speelbos 't Vossenhol, nestled within the Eikenbos forest near Bertem, is a delightful natural playground that encourages children to explore, create, and connect with nature. This 5-hectare play area distinguishes itself by foregoing traditional playground equipment in favor of natural elements that spark imagination and adventure. Instead of swings and slides, children can build huts from branches, scramble up play hills, and crawl through tunnels. A small amphitheater and sandpit offer additional spaces for creative play. The playground also features a climbing wall and a maze. The area is designed to be both a recreational and ecological haven, with designated zones and features like a small orchard and butterfly-friendly shrubs. Parents and grandparents can relax at the provided picnic tables while watching the children play. The park includes a hardened walking path accessible to wheelchair users. From the playground, visitors can spot the impressive Bertem radar station, a key piece of air traffic technology. Speelbos 't Vossenhol was created through a collaboration between the Bertem municipality, the Agency for Nature and Forests (ANB), and local children and youth organizations. This collaborative approach ensured that the playground caters to the needs and desires of the community it serves.
