Discover more about Waterpomp Markt

The Waterpomp Markt, situated on Kroegberg in Leuven, stands as a testament to the city's rich history. More specifically known as the Sint-Janspomp, it is one of two water pumps gracing the Oude Markt (Old Market Square). The other pump is called the Collegepomp. The Sint-Janspomp dates back to the early 18th century, though the current bluestone structure was erected in 1856. While the handle is gone, the pump has been continuously pumping groundwater since 2010. The pump is adorned with Leuven's coat of arms on either side, each accompanied by a water basin. Since 1994, the Sint-Janspomp has been part of a protected cityscape. While the Sint-Janspomp still functions, the Collegepomp does not. It was damaged during the Second World War.
