    Discover more about Zimmer tower

The Zimmer Tower, originally a part of Lier's medieval fortifications dating back to the 14th century, has transformed into a unique monument celebrating time and astronomy. In 1930, Louis Zimmer, a local astronomer and clockmaker, donated his Jubilee Clock to the city. This intricate clock was mounted on the tower's facade, turning the former Cornelius Tower into the Zimmer Tower. The Jubilee Clock is the tower's main attraction, featuring 13 dials that display an array of time-related and astronomical information. These include the official time, the phases of the moon, the equation of time, the zodiac, the seasons, and more. At noon, a carousel on the tower displays historical figures and symbols related to Lier and Belgium. Inside the tower, visitors can explore the Astronomical Studio, showcasing Zimmer's work and offering insights into the universe. The adjacent Zimmer Pavilion houses the Wonder Clock, another of Zimmer's masterpieces, featuring 93 dials and automatons. The tower and pavilion together form a museum dedicated to Zimmer's life and work, attracting those interested in clocks, astronomy, and the history of Lier.
