Bosch Brewery: A Step Back in Time

Step back in time at the Bosch Brewery, Maastricht's last complete city brewery and a designated national industrial monument. Founded in 1758, the brewery remained in operation until 1970, and has been remarkably preserved, offering visitors an immersive experience of the brewing process as it was in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The brewery complex includes the malting house, the brewhouse, and the brewer's residence, providing a comprehensive view of the brewing operations and the life of the brewers. The brewer's house features period rooms and a stunning spiral staircase, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle of the Bosch family, who owned the brewery from 1827. A recently restored marble painting in the hall of the brewhouse is a unique feature for the southern Netherlands and Belgium. Guided tours, led by enthusiastic volunteers, take visitors through the entire brewing process, from malting to bottling. The tour concludes with a tasting of two special Maastricht beers in one of the brewery's cozy taprooms, accompanied by regional cheeses. The Bosch Brewery provides a fascinating insight into Maastricht's industrial heritage and brewing traditions. Soon, the Bosch Brewery will once again be brewing its own beers on-site in a new microbrewery, reviving old recipes and adding a new chapter to its rich history.
