Het Nieuwe Domein: Where Art and Heritage Intersect

Het Nieuwe Domein is located in the heart of Sittard, housed within a historical building that once served as a 19th-century city school. This museum stands out by presenting contemporary art and regional heritage side-by-side, offering visitors a unique lens through which to view the past and future. The museum's collection is divided into two main sections: contemporary art and urban history & archeology. The contemporary art section focuses on international avant-garde art, showcasing photography, video art, and cross-overs, with an emphasis on emerging artists and their established predecessors. The urban history and archeology section explores the region's past and present, displaying archeological and historical artifacts. Exhibitions at Het Nieuwe Domein are organized around three main themes: ecology & activism, ritual & religion, and migration & society.
