Discover more about Het Nieuwe Domein

Het Nieuwe Domein (HND) is located in the heart of Sittard, Netherlands, and offers visitors a unique experience by radically interweaving contemporary art with the region's rich heritage. Housed within a historic building at Kapittelstraat 6, the museum itself carries a story, having served as a schoolhouse in 1863 and later becoming a vibrant youth center, 'Donkiesjot,' where iconic bands like the Sex Pistols and U2 once performed. Today, Het Nieuwe Domein presents a dynamic program that explores the raw edges of life through thought-provoking exhibitions and a fresh perspective on history and future. The museum embraces a 'soft rebellious' approach, lending an ear to multiple voices and universal themes while remaining deeply rooted in the region. Visitors can expect to encounter a diverse range of artistic expressions, including photography, video art, and cross-over installations, with a focus on both emerging talents and their established predecessors. While the Ligne 5 location is no longer hosting exhibitions, the Kapittelstraat 6 location continues to offer short-term, experimental projects that connect heritage and art, addressing social issues and regional narratives. The museum aims to provide a new perspective, encouraging visitors to engage with art and history in unexpected and meaningful ways.
