Getting There

Car
If you are driving from San Ignacio, head west on the George Price Highway (Hwy 1) towards Benque Viejo del Carmen. After about 10 minutes, look for the sign indicating San Jose Succotz. Turn left onto the road that leads to San Jose Succotz. Continue on this road for about 5 minutes until you reach the village. Once in San Jose Succotz, follow the signs to the ferry crossing. You will need to take a small ferry across the Mopan River to reach the Xunantunich ruins. The ferry costs approximately $5 BZD per vehicle. After crossing the river, follow the road to the parking area near the ruins. The site is about a 10-minute walk from the parking area.

From San Ignacio, catch a bus or a minivan heading to Benque Viejo del Carmen. The buses leave from the main bus terminal in San Ignacio and cost about $1-2 BZD. Inform the driver that you are going to San Jose Succotz. The journey takes approximately 15-20 minutes. Once you arrive in San Jose Succotz, follow the signs to the ferry crossing. You will need to pay a fee of about $5 BZD to take the ferry across the Mopan River. After crossing, it is a short walk to the entrance of Xunantunich. Be prepared to walk for about 10 minutes from the ferry to the ruins.
