Getting There

    If you are driving from Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, head south on the main road (the Northern Highway) towards the village of Crooked Tree. As you exit the sanctuary, continue on the road for about 4 kilometers until you reach the junction for the Old Northern Highway. Turn left here. Follow the Old Northern Highway for approximately 13 kilometers until you reach the turnoff for New River. Turn right onto the dirt road leading to New River. The river is approximately 1 kilometer down this road.

    To reach New River using public transportation, you can catch a bus from Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary to Belize City. Buses run regularly from Crooked Tree to Belize City. Once you arrive in Belize City, transfer to a bus heading towards the Old Northern Highway. After about 30 minutes, ask the bus driver to let you off at the junction for the Old Northern Highway. From there, you will need to arrange for a taxi or local transport to take you to New River, as it is not accessible by bus directly. The taxi ride should take around 15-20 minutes and cost approximately $10-15 BZD.

    For adventurous travelers, cycling from Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary to New River is an option. Head south on the main road and follow the same route as if driving.
