Getting There

• Car

  If you're starting from San Ignacio, take the George Price Highway (Hummingbird Highway) towards the west. Continue past the town of Santa Elena and follow the signs for the Belize-Guatemala border. After about 15 miles, turn right onto the Caracol Road. This road is unpaved and can be rough, so drive cautiously. Continue for about 25 miles until you reach the entrance to the Caracol Natural Monument Reservation. Make sure you have a map or GPS as cell service can be spotty.

• Public Transportation

  From San Ignacio, you can catch a bus or shared taxi to the village of Benque Viejo del Carmen. From there, you will need to hire a local taxi that can take you to Caracol. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey. The taxi ride to Caracol is approximately 30 miles and will take around an hour. It's advisable to arrange for the taxi driver to wait for you or to have a return transportation plan, as public transport is limited in this area.
