Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving, start from Vaca Plateau and head south on the Hummingbird Highway. Continue for about 25 kilometers until you reach the junction with the Southern Highway. Turn left onto the Southern Highway and drive for another 15 kilometers. Look for the signage for the Rio Frio Caves which will direct you onto an unpaved road. Follow this road for approximately 5 kilometers, and you will find the entrance to the Rio Frio Cave on your left.

    To reach the Rio Frio Cave using public transportation, first, head to the nearest bus stop in Vaca Plateau. Look for buses heading to the town of San Ignacio. Once you arrive in San Ignacio, transfer to a bus headed towards the Southern Highway. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the junction for the Rio Frio Caves. After you get off, you may need to walk approximately 5 kilometers down the dirt road to the entrance of the cave. Keep an eye out for signs along the way.
