Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the Cotonou Central Market (Marché Central), head southwest on Avenue Jean-Paul II towards Avenue de la Révolution. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Avenue de la Révolution. Turn left onto Avenue de la Révolution and walk until you reach the large roundabout. From the roundabout, take the exit towards Rue des Nations Unies. Independence Square will be on your left after approximately 500 meters, identifiable by its large open space and historical significance.

    If you are near the Grand Marché (the Big Market), exit the market and head south on Avenue des États-Unis. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Avenue de la République. Turn right onto Avenue de la République and walk towards the large roundabout. From the roundabout, take the exit towards Rue des Nations Unies. Independence Square will be on your left after about 700 meters.

    From the Cotonou Beach (Plage de Cotonou), head north along the beach promenade until you reach the main road (Avenue de la République). Turn left onto Avenue de la République and continue until you reach the roundabout. Take the exit towards Rue des Nations Unies. Independence Square is approximately 800 meters up this road on your left.
