Walking
If you are in the central area of Cotonou, start at the Cotonou Central Market. Head east on Avenue Jean-Paul II towards Boulevard de la République. Continue walking straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the roundabout at Place des Martyrs. From the roundabout, take the first exit onto Rue de l'Indépendance. Continue along this road, and you will see Independence Square on your left after about 300 meters. The square is marked by its prominent historical monuments.

If you're near the beach, start at the Plage de Cotonou. Walk north along the beach road, Boulevard de la Marina, for about 1 kilometer until you reach Avenue de la Marina. Turn left and follow this road until it intersects with Boulevard de la République. Turn right and walk straight for about 1 kilometer. You will find Independence Square on your right, just before the roundabout at Place des Martyrs.

From the Palais des Congrès, head south on Avenue Jean-Paul II. Walk straight for about 800 meters until you reach the intersection with Avenue de la République. Turn left and continue for about 400 meters. Independence Square will be on your right side, easily recognizable by its historical landmarks and open space.
