Upon arrival in Paro (at, I might add, the most beautiful airport I’ve ever seen), our guide Mohan and our driver Nomgay greeted us with big smiles and warm welcomes. We were quickly made to feel at home and supported with anything needed during our 6-day stay. The entire team from Raven Tours helped to connect me with the local people and truly get a sense of the hospitality and gentle nature of the Bhutanese people. Traveling with my son, I wanted him to engage and learn hands-on, and we had so many opportunities to do this, from art workshops to cooking classes to testing our skills at archery. One of the best experiences of the trip, and one I would recommend to anyone visiting Bhutan, is a homestay at a farm with a family. Spending time with their multigenerational family, sharing food and stories (and homemade spirits!), was an unexpected highlight of our trip. The countryside is beautiful, and this experience will give you insight into family life in Bhutan. Without Mohan and Nomgay's supportive encouragement and gentle guidance, my 77-year-old father could not have successfully completed the challenging hike to Tigers Nest Monastery. I will be forever grateful to these two men who helped me give my Dad this once-in-a-lifetime experience high in the clouds.
