Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car from central Punakha, start by heading east on the Punakha-Wangdue Highway (NH 5). Continue for about 5 kilometers until you reach the junction for Teoprongchu. Turn left onto this road, which is well-marked. Follow the road for approximately 2 kilometers, and you will see signs indicating Chimi Lhakhang. There is parking available near the temple.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Chimi Lhakhang by public transport, first take a local bus from Punakha town to Wangdue Phodrang. These buses typically leave from the main bus station. Tell the driver you want to get off at the Teoprongchu stop, which is about a 15-minute ride. Once you disembark, follow the signs to Chimi Lhakhang, which is about a 20-minute walk uphill. Make sure to check the bus schedules for return trips to ensure you don't miss the last bus back.

• Taxi

  You can also hire a taxi from Punakha to Chimi Lhakhang. Negotiate the fare beforehand, which should range between 300-500 Ngultrum for a round trip depending on waiting time. The taxi will take you directly to the temple, and you can enjoy the scenic views along the way.

• Walking

  For the more adventurous, you can hike to Chimi Lhakhang from Punakha town. This trek will take approximately 1-2 hours depending on your pace. Start by heading east out of Punakha, following the river and then taking the path that leads into the fields towards Teoprongchu. Look for the signs directing you to the temple as you approach; the hike is well worth it for the beautiful views.
