Getting There

  • Car

    From Punakha Valley, head northeast on the main road (Punakha-Wangdue Road). Continue along this road for about 30 km until you reach the junction at Wangdue Phodrang. At the junction, turn left onto the road leading to Gangtey/Phobjikha Valley. The road is well-marked for tourists. Follow the signs and continue for another 20 km, where you will reach the entrance to Phobjikha Valley. Parking is available near the main attractions.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Phobjikha Valley by public transport, you will need to take a local bus from Punakha to Wangdue Phodrang. Buses depart regularly from the main bus station in Punakha. The fare is approximately 50-100 Ngultrum. Once you arrive at Wangdue Phodrang, look for a shared taxi or a local minivan heading to Gangtey/Phobjikha Valley. The shared taxi fare is around 200 Ngultrum per person. Inform the driver to drop you off at Phobjikha Valley, which is about 20 km from Wangdue Phodrang.

    For a more comfortable journey, you can hire a taxi from Punakha directly to Phobjikha Valley. Negotiate the fare with the driver beforehand; it should be around 1,500 to 2,000 Ngultrum for a one-way trip. The drive will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, and the driver will take the same route as personal vehicles, stopping at scenic points upon request.
