Car
Starting from Sarpang, take the NH2 highway heading towards Gelephu. Continue on NH2 for about 35 km until you reach the junction at Gelephu. From there, take the road towards Punakha/Dzongkhul, following the signs. The journey will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. The Punakha Dzong will be located on the left side of the river as you approach the town of Punakha. Once you see the dzong, you can park in the designated parking area nearby.
Public Transportation
From Sarpang, take a local bus or shared taxi to Gelephu. Buses leave regularly from the main bus terminal; the journey will take around 1 hour. Once in Gelephu, transfer to a bus or shared taxi heading towards Punakha. Ensure to confirm that the bus goes directly to Punakha Dzong or ask the driver to let you know when to disembark. The total travel time from Sarpang to Punakha Dzong using public transport is approximately 3-4 hours, and the cost for the bus rides should be around 150-300 BTN depending on the vehicle.
