Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Thimphu, head east on Norzin Lam towards the Clock Tower Square. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Chhoten Lam. Turn left onto Chhoten Lam and walk straight. After about 1.5 km, you will reach the junction with the road leading to Punakha. Follow the signs toward Punakha, which will lead you to the bus station. At the bus station, take a local bus heading to Punakha. The journey will take about 2-3 hours.

• Public Transport

  From your location in Thimphu, make your way to the Thimphu Bus Station located near the Clock Tower. Look for the bus routes that go to Punakha. Purchase your ticket at the counter. Once onboard, enjoy the scenic ride. The bus will take you through beautiful landscapes, and you will arrive at Punakha. Once in Punakha, you can hire a local taxi or take a short walk to reach the Punakha Dzong, which is a short distance from the bus drop-off point.

• Bicycle

  If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops in Thimphu. Start from the center of Thimphu and head towards the main road leading out of the city towards Punakha. The route is generally downhill, making it easier to cycle. Follow the route signs and be cautious of any traffic. The journey may take around 2-3 hours, depending on your pace. Once you reach Punakha, you can easily find your way to the Punakha Dzong by asking locals for directions.
