Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the National Memorial Chorten, which is located in the center of Thimphu. From the Chorten, head northeast on the Norzin Lam road towards the clock tower. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with the Chang Lam road. Turn left onto Chang Lam and follow this road as it winds through the city. After approximately 1.5 km, you will see the road leading up towards Motithang. Follow signs for the Royal Takin Preserve. The entrance to the preserve will be on your left after about 500 meters.

    If you are starting from Tashichho Dzong, exit the grounds and head east on the road towards the main highway. After about 1 km, turn right onto the road leading towards Motithang. Continue along this road for about 1.2 km until you reach the Royal Takin Preserve entrance on your right.

    From the Thimphu City Bus Terminal, walk towards the main street and head northwest on Norzin Lam. Continue walking for about 1.7 km until you reach the intersection with Chang Lam. Turn left on Chang Lam and follow it until you reach the Motithang area. The Royal Takin Preserve will be located about 800 meters ahead on your left.
