Walking
Start at the central bus station in Trashigang. Head northwest on the main road (Trashigang to Samdrup Jongkhar highway). Walk for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the junction that leads to the Trashigang Dzong. Turn right at the junction and continue straight. After approximately 500 meters, you will see a sign for Gongthung. Follow this road for about 2 kilometers. Keep an eye out for a small footpath on your left that leads directly to Gongthung. The path may be steep in some areas, so be cautious. The entire journey should take around 45 minutes to 1 hour on foot.
Bicycle
If you are renting a bicycle, start from the central bus station in Trashigang. Cycle northwest along the main road towards the Trashigang Dzong junction (approximately 1.5 kilometers). At the junction, turn right and continue for about 500 meters. Look for the sign indicating Gongthung and take the road leading to it. The ride will take you through some scenic areas, and you will cycle for about 2 kilometers before reaching a footpath on your left that leads to Gongthung. This route should take about 30 minutes, depending on your cycling speed.
Local Guide
Consider hiring a local guide for a more informative experience. Start from your accommodation in Trashigang and ask your guide to take you to Gongthung. They will take you through the best walking paths and share insights about the area. This option ensures you won’t miss any historical context and can enjoy the local culture along the way.
