Enchanting Copacabana: A Jewel on the Shores of Lake Titicaca

Getting There

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  If you're traveling from Puno (Peru) to Copacabana, head to the Puno bus terminal and look for buses headed to Copacabana. The journey takes about 3-4 hours. Make sure to purchase your ticket in advance, which usually costs around 15-25 PEN (Peruvian Soles). Once you arrive at the Copacabana bus terminal, you will be in the town, just a short walk away from the central square.

• Private Car

  To drive to Copacabana, start from La Paz. Take the road to the southwest towards the town of El Alto, then continue on Route 2 (the main road) towards Copacabana. The drive takes approximately 3 hours, covering about 150 kilometers. Be mindful of the ferry crossing at the Strait of Tiquina, where you will need to take a small ferry for both your vehicle and yourself. The ferry ride costs around 30 BOB (Bolivian Bolivianos) for vehicles and about 5 BOB for each passenger.

• Shared Taxi (Trufi)

  From La Paz, you can take a shared taxi (known as Trufi) to Copacabana. Head to the 'Cementerio' terminal in La Paz, where you can find taxis heading directly to Copacabana. This option is faster than a bus, usually taking about 2.5-3 hours, and costs around 30-50 BOB per person.

• Ferry from Isla del Sol

  If you are visiting Isla del Sol on Lake Titicaca, you can take a ferry from the island back to Copacabana. Ferries leave regularly from the north and south docks of Isla del Sol, and the ride takes about 30-45 minutes. The cost is approximately 20 BOB for the trip. Once you arrive at the Copacabana dock, you will be very close to the town center.
