Car
If you are traveling by car, start in the town of Copacabana, located on the shores of Lake Titicaca. From there, head south on Route 2 for about 15 kilometers. After passing the town of Achacachi, continue on the same route until you see signs for Pico Austria. The mountain is located approximately 10 kilometers off the main road. Follow the dirt road signs that lead you up to the mountain. Be aware that the last part of the route may require a 4x4 vehicle due to rough terrain.
Public Transportation
To reach Pico Austria using public transportation, take a bus from Copacabana to La Paz. Buses run frequently, and the journey takes about 3 hours. Once in La Paz, you can take another bus to Achacachi. From Achacachi, you will need to hire a local taxi or a shared taxi to get closer to Pico Austria. The taxi ride will take about 30-40 minutes, and you should negotiate the fare beforehand, which should be around 50-70 Bolivianos.
Hiking
If you enjoy hiking, you can start your journey from the nearest village, which is approximately 5 kilometers from Pico Austria. There are local guides available in the village who can take you to the mountain. The hike will take around 2-3 hours, and it's recommended to bring water and snacks. Ensure you have suitable hiking gear, as the terrain can be challenging.
