Bus
To reach Maragua from Sucre, start by heading to the main bus terminal, Terminal de Buses. You can either walk there if you're close by or take a taxi for convenience. At the bus terminal, look for buses or minibuses heading to 'Maragua' or 'Potrero' (the nearby village). The fare is usually very affordable. The journey will take approximately 1-1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Maragua, follow the signs or ask locals for directions to the crater area.
Taxi/Shared Taxi
If you prefer a more direct and possibly faster route, you can take a taxi or shared taxi (known as 'trufis' in Bolivia) from Sucre to Maragua. Head to one of the main plazas or taxi stands in Sucre, such as Plaza 25 de Mayo. Negotiate the fare with the driver before the trip; it tends to be more expensive than the bus but can save time. The journey will take about 40 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic. Upon arrival in Maragua, follow signs or local guidance to the crater.
Walking
For the adventurous, if you're staying relatively close to Maragua, you can consider walking. Start from central Sucre and head towards the outskirts following the road towards the north. Be sure to have a map or use a GPS-enabled device to guide you. The walk can be long, taking several hours, and may not be suitable for everyone, so consider this option only if you're physically fit and prepared.
