The Monument to the Revolution at Mrakovica stands as a powerful memorial to the victims of the Kozara Offensive during World War II. This offensive, led by German and Ustaše forces, resulted in the deaths of 2,500 Yugoslav Partisan fighters and 68,500 civilians, predominantly Serbs, who were either killed or deported to concentration camps. The monument, designed by Dušan Džamonja in collaboration with architect Marijana Hanženković, was completed in 1972. The cylindrical structure reaches a height of 33 meters and is composed of twenty vertical segments. These segments feature deep-set concrete pillars (positives) and hollows (negatives), symbolizing victory/life and death, respectively. Horizontally-positioned concrete blocks represent the enemy forces. The memorial complex also includes a museum that houses archival photographs, wartime artifacts, and documents from the Kozara battle. The memorial wall displays the names of 9,921 Partisan soldiers killed in the battles on Kozara. Visitors can explore the monument, museum, and memorial wall to gain a deeper understanding of the events that took place during this period.
