Discover more about Fortica

Fortica, derived from the Italian word 'fortezza' meaning fort, is a prominent hill towering over Mostar, offering more than just a scenic viewpoint. This popular destination blends natural beauty with adrenaline-pumping activities and historical significance. Originally named for Austro-Hungarian and Italian fortifications built upon it, Fortica has long been a favorite escape for locals seeking respite from the summer heat and a place to commemorate important figures and events in Mostar's history. In the past, the hill bore the names of Emperor Franz Josef I and Josip Broz Tito, reflecting the region's shifting allegiances. Today, the hillside displays the inscription 'BiH Volimo Te' ('Bosnia and Herzegovina, I Love You'). Fortica Park boasts a variety of attractions, including one of the longest ziplines in Bosnia and Herzegovina, offering a remarkable view of Mostar as you soar over the canyon. For those seeking a less intense but equally rewarding experience, the Skywalk, a glass promenade, provides panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscapes. Adventure seekers can also enjoy hiking trails, mountain biking paths, a via ferrata, and rock climbing. The remnants of military fortifications from World War I and World War II add a historical layer to the site. Whether you're drawn by the thrill of adventure sports, the allure of panoramic vistas, or the echoes of history, Fortica offers a multifaceted experience that captures the essence of Mostar and its surrounding region.
