It marks the source of a small, 350-meter-long river also named Plava Voda, which flows through the town before joining the Lašva River. The spring emerges from beneath Vlašić Mountain, right below the historic Travnik Castle, adding to the area's charm. For centuries, Plava Voda has been Travnik's primary source of drinking water and a focal point of its cultural and historical heritage. The area around the spring, encompassing the Old Town, was declared a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2013. Historically, the springs powered watermills and workshops that processed oak bark for the town's tanneries.
