Getting There

Air

The most convenient way to reach Savuti is by flying into Savuti Airstrip via a chartered flight from Kasane (BBK) or Maun (MUB). Wilderness Air and Mack Air offer charter services. The flight from Kasane is approximately 30 minutes, and from Maun, it's about 40 minutes. From the airstrip, a 20-minute road transfer will take you to your lodge. Charter flights are typically arranged by your tour operator.
Road

Savuti can be reached by 4x4 vehicle, primarily during the dry season (April to October). From Kasane, the drive is long and challenging, taking 6-8 hours. Alternatively, you can drive from Maun via Moremi Game Reserve and/or the Khwai Concession, which is a two-day journey. Roads are sandy and may be flooded seasonally, requiring a reliable 4x4 vehicle. Park entrance fees for international visitors are approximately BWP 270 per person per day, plus BWP 115 per vehicle per day. These fees are payable in BWP cash upon arrival at the park gates or by card/cash at the DWNP offices in Maun or Kasane.

Savuti, also known as Savute, is a remote and captivating area within Chobe National Park, celebrated for its unique landscape and abundant wildlife. Located in the southern part of Chobe National Park, Savuti is characterized by vast savannahs, rolling grasslands and rocky outcrops.The area's defining feature is the Savuti Channel, a watercourse that mysteriously flows and dries up independently of local rainfall. This phenomenon has shaped the ecosystem, creating a dynamic environment that attracts a diverse array of wildlife. When the channel flows, it feeds the Savuti Marsh, creating a lush habitat that supports a high concentration of animals. When dry, the landscape transforms, offering a different perspective on the African wilderness.Savuti is renowned for its large predator populations, especially lions, which have been known to hunt elephants. Visitors can also spot cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, and African wild dogs. The area also hosts large herds of zebras and buffalo, as well as diverse birdlife. The zebra migration, peaking in November-December and February-April, is a spectacular sight.Historically, the area was once a large inland lake, with the Savuti Channel connecting the Chobe River to the Mababe Depression. Tectonic shifts altered the landscape, leading to the complex mosaic of marshes, sand ridges, and woodlands seen today. San rock paintings can be found within the rocky hills, offering glimpses into the area's ancient past.
