Machaba Camp: An Okavango Delta Safari Experience

Machaba Camp is a traditional-style camp located in the northeastern section of the Okavango Delta, within the Khwai Community Concession. This 35,000-hectare reserve shares a border with the Moremi Game Reserve, offering guests access to a wide variety of wildlife and landscapes. The camp is named after the Setswana word for the Sycamore Fig, also known as the tree of life.The camp features safari-style canvas tents that reflect the classic safari ambiance of the 1950s. Pathways meander between large trees in the riverine thicket, creating a serene and secluded atmosphere. Each tent is equipped with ensuite bathrooms, living areas, and both indoor and outdoor showers. The main area includes a lounge, library, and a swimming pool with riverside views.Guests can explore the Okavango Delta through game drives, walking safaris, and mokoro excursions, which are traditional dugout canoes. The Khwai area is known for its consistent game viewing throughout the year, with regular sightings of predators and rarer species like wild dogs. The camp also offers opportunities to visit the local Khwai village to experience authentic African culture.The Khwai Development Trust manages the Khwai Concession and works to ensure that the benefits from tourism activities are distributed to the local community.
