Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Gaborone's city center, take a local bus or 'combis' heading east towards Broadhurst. Alight near Broadhurst Mall, approximately 1km from the reserve's entrance on Limpopo Drive. From there, it's a short taxi or walk to the Gaborone Game Reserve. A one-way public transport ticket costs around P8. A taxi from Broadhurst Mall to the reserve should cost approximately P30-P50.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are readily available throughout Gaborone. A taxi ride from the city center to Gaborone Game Reserve, located off Game Reserve Road, will typically cost between P50 and P80, depending on the distance and traffic. Ensure the taxi fare is agreed upon before commencing the journey. Ride-hailing apps like Gabz Ride, Mpitsa, or Kolloi Botswana are also available.

  • Driving

    From Gaborone city center, head east on Nyerere Drive. Continue past the first roundabout, and follow the road as it veers left. Look for the sign to Gaborone Game Reserve and turn right. The reserve is 1km down this road. Parking is available at the entrance. Entrance fee is P10 per adult, and an additional P10 for the vehicle. There are no toll roads on this route.

It is the third busiest reserve in Botswana.While it may lack the vast wilderness of Botswana's national parks, Gaborone Game Reserve offers a convenient escape into nature. Visitors can observe various animals, including wildebeest, eland, gemsbok, kudu, zebra, impala, warthogs, and ostriches. The reserve is also a haven for birdwatchers, with plentiful species like kingfishers and hornbills easily spotted from observation areas.The terrain features tree savanna, riparian woodland, marsh, and rocky outcrops. The reserve has picnic sites, a game hide, and a visitor education center. The Gaborone Game Reserve enhances conservation awareness. The reserve is open daily from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm.
