Espaço Lucio Costa is a museum honoring Lúcio Costa, the architect and urban planner who won the national competition to design Brasília's Pilot Plan. Opened in 1992, the museum is located beneath the Praça dos Três Poderes (Three Powers Plaza), an important civic space designed to symbolize harmony and independence between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Brazilian government. The museum project was conceived by Oscar Niemeyer.The main attraction is the large model of Brasília, built in 1988, which represents the city as it was in December 1987. The model is surrounded by a gallery displaying copies of Costa's original sketches and the Pilot Plan report presented to the international jury in 1957.
