Memorial JK: A Tribute to Juscelino Kubitschek

The Memorial JK, located on the Monumental Axis in Brasília, is a striking tribute to Juscelino Kubitschek (1902–1976), the former president who envisioned and built Brazil's capital city. Designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, the memorial stands as a symbol of Kubitschek's vision and Brazil's modern architectural identity.The memorial complex includes a mausoleum, a museum, and a cultural center. The building itself is a modernist masterpiece, featuring a white marble exterior and a distinctive dome. A statue of Kubitschek by Honório Peçanha stands on a 28-meter pedestal outside the memorial. Inside, visitors can explore exhibits detailing Kubitschek's life, presidency (1956-1961), and the construction of Brasília.The museum displays a collection of Kubitschek's personal belongings, including photographs, documents, and his presidential sash. Replicas of his former library and office offer insights into his life. The memorial also houses his tomb, located beneath stained glass created by French artist Marianne Peretti. A 1974 Ford Galaxie LTD, the last car Kubitschek used, is also on display.The Memorial JK is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9 AM to 6 PM.
