Morro de São Jeronimo: A Hiker's Haven

Morro de São Jeronimo, or Mount St. Jerome, is a prominent natural landmark within the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, near Cuiabá. Rising to an elevation of 850 meters (2,788 feet) , it stands as the highest peak in the park, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape. The area is characterized by its unique rock formations, lush greenery, and diverse flora and fauna, attracting hikers and nature lovers alike.The hike to the summit is moderately challenging, typically taking around 2 hours, and covers a distance of approximately 2 km each way. The trails wind through ancient pathways and past nature-sculpted rock formations. Keep an eye out for hematite rocks, some bearing impressions of seashells, a testament to the area's geological history. The mountain's original indigenous name is Bokodoriri, meaning "giant armadillo," a reference to its distinctive shape when viewed from below.Visitors are encouraged to check local weather conditions before embarking on a hike and to bring comfortable hiking shoes and plenty of water. Early morning visits are recommended to avoid crowds and the intense midday heat.
