The Museu do Naufrágio, or Shipwreck Museum, is located near the Praia dos Ingleses (Ingleses Beach) in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. This unique museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing artifacts recovered from shipwrecks along the Brazilian coastline. It primarily features findings from a 17th-century vessel that met its end off the coast of Ingleses. The museum is the result of the Projeto de Arqueologia Subaquática (PAS), an organization dedicated to researching, rescuing, and preserving underwater archaeological sites. The artifacts on display offer insights into the lives of the ship's crew and passengers, as well as the maritime trade and culture of the time. Visitors can view ceramics, metal objects, and personal items, all carefully conserved and displayed with informative descriptions. The story of the featured shipwreck is particularly intriguing. The vessel was a Spanish ship that had been captured by English pirates. After looting Spanish colonies, the pirates attempted to return to England but were captured near the island by Dias Velho, the founder of Vila de Nossa Senhora do Desterro. The museum is curated by Daniel Rian, who shares the history of the artifacts with visitors.
