Getting There

Hiking

From Vila do Abraão, take the T10 trail. The hike is approximately 7 km and takes 2-3 hours, passing through several beaches and jungle areas. Follow signs to Praia da Julia, then Enseada das Palmas, and continue to Lopes Mendes. Be prepared for steep inclines and muddy trails. Ensure you have water, snacks, and proper footwear.
Boat and Hiking

From Vila do Abraão, take a boat to Pouso Beach. Boats (schooner transfers) typically cost around R$50 for a round trip. Check departure times for the return trip. From Pouso Beach, follow the T11 trail for approximately 1 km (20 minutes) to Lopes Mendes. This is an easy, well-marked trail.

Lopes Mendes Beach, located on the south side of Ilha Grande in Angra dos Reis, is celebrated as one of Brazil's most beautiful beaches. Its 3 km of soft, white sand and clear turquoise waters create a picturesque setting for relaxation and recreation. The beach faces the Atlantic Ocean, offering consistent waves that are popular with surfers. The beach is named after José Lopes Mendes, a Portuguese settler from the 18th century. Today, Lopes Mendes remains largely untouched, with no buildings or significant infrastructure, preserving its natural charm. A few small stalls offer basic refreshments, but visitors should bring their own supplies to fully enjoy the day. The shoreline is backed by almond trees, providing natural shade. Lopes Mendes is accessible by hiking trails or boat. The most popular trail, T10, starts in Vila do Abraão and takes approximately 2-3 hours. Alternatively, visitors can take a boat to Pouso Beach and hike a shorter 20-minute trail (T11) to Lopes Mendes. The beach's natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere make it a must-visit destination on Ilha Grande.
