Car
If you are traveling by car, head towards the north of São Paulo on the BR-101 highway. Once you reach Ilhabela, continue along the coastal road until you reach the ferry terminal. Take the ferry to Ilhabela, which usually costs around R$ 20 per vehicle. After disembarking, follow the signs to the north of the island. Drive towards the Castelhanos Road (Estrada de Castelhanos). The road is unpaved and may require a 4x4 vehicle, so be prepared for rough conditions. Follow the road for approximately 14 km until you reach Castelhanos Beach.

Public Transportation - Bus
For those using public transportation, take a bus from São Paulo to Ilhabela. Buses leave from the Tietê Bus Terminal and can cost around R$ 100. Upon arriving at Ilhabela, you will need to take a local bus or taxi to the ferry terminal. After taking the ferry to Ilhabela, take another local bus heading north towards Castelhanos. Be aware that the bus service may be limited, so check the schedule in advance. The bus fare is approximately R$ 10. You may also need to negotiate a taxi or shared ride for the last leg of the journey on the unpaved road to Castelhanos Beach.

Hiking
For the adventurous traveler, you can also hike to Castelhanos. Begin your hike from the north side of Ilhabela. This option requires a good level of physical fitness as the trail can be challenging. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are no facilities along the way. The hike can take about 4-6 hours depending on your pace, and it is recommended to start early in the morning.
