Discover more about Ubatuba Aquarium

The Ubatuba Aquarium, established in 1996 by a group of oceanographers, is dedicated to raising awareness about marine environment conservation. It is located in Itaguá, Ubatuba, and it features around 70 species. The aquarium boasts 12 saltwater tanks, including one of the largest marine tanks in Brazil, holding 80,000 liters of water. These tanks house a variety of marine life, from local Brazilian species to exotic species from coral reefs around the world. Visitors can observe colorful seahorses, eels, sharks, groupers, and pufferfish. The aquarium obtains its exotic specimens from importers legally registered with IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources). One of the aquarium's main attractions is the penguin exhibit, where visitors can see Magellanic penguins from Patagonia and even observe them being fed. The aquarium also features a touch tank where visitors can interact with marine animals like sea cucumbers, starfish, urchins, and lobsters under the guidance of specialized staff. Additionally, the Museum of Marine Life displays specimens of ocean fauna in the form of fossils, skeletons, and taxidermied animals.
