Beco do Rato: The Heartbeat of Lapa

Getting There

• Metro

  If you are near the Copacabana area, take the metro at the Cardeal Arcoverde station and head towards the direction of the Uruguaiana station. After about 15 minutes, get off at the Cinelândia station. From there, exit the station and walk towards Rua do Passeio. Turn left onto Rua do Passeio and continue walking until you reach the intersection with Rua da Lapa. Turn right onto Rua da Lapa and continue straight until you see the colorful steps of the Selarón Stairs. Beco do Rato is located in the same neighborhood, just a short walk from there.

• Bus

  You can catch the bus from various points around Rio. Look for a bus that has a sign saying 'Lapa' or 'Cinelândia.' If you are in Copacabana, take the bus number 583 or 584 from Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the Lapa stop, and from there, walk towards Rua da Lapa. Beco do Rato is a short walk away, located on a side street.

• Walking

  If you are staying in the Santa Teresa neighborhood, you can easily walk to Beco do Rato. Start at the Largo do Curvelo, which is a central point in Santa Teresa. Head down the hill towards Rua Almirante Alexandrino. Continue walking straight until you reach Rua da Lapa, then turn right. Follow Rua da Lapa until you see the colorful steps of the Selarón Stairs, then make your way to Beco do Rato, which is just a short distance away.

• Ride-sharing (e.g., Uber)

  If you prefer a more direct option, consider using a ride-sharing app like Uber. Simply open the app, set your pickup location, and enter 'Beco do Rato, Lapa, Rio de Janeiro' as your destination. The driver will take you directly to the location, which is especially convenient if you are carrying luggage or are in a group.
