The stadium partially opened in 1960 and was fully completed in 1970, becoming one of the largest stadiums in South America. The stadium was named after Cícero Pompeu de Toledo, the chairman of São Paulo Futebol Clube, who passed away before the stadium's inauguration. Over the years, MorumBIS has hosted countless memorable football matches, including São Paulo FC's many national and international triumphs. The stadium's record attendance was in 1977 with 138,032 spectators. Besides football, MorumBIS is a major concert venue, hosting international acts.
