Parque Tanguá: A Harmony of Nature and Urban Renewal

Parque Tanguá, one of Curitiba's main parks, is a testament to urban renewal and environmental preservation. Opened on November 23, 1996, the park occupies 235,000 square meters in the northern part of the city, nestled between the Pilarzinho and Taboão neighborhoods. It was created on the site of two deactivated quarries, which had been abandoned since the 1970s. The park is divided into two main areas. The upper section features the Jardim Poty Lazzarotto, inaugurated in 1998 and named in honor of the local artist. This garden showcases a French style with flower beds and water features. A lookout point provides panoramic views of the city skyline. The lower area includes two lakes connected by a 45-meter tunnel, offering a unique experience as visitors walk through it on a walkway over the water. An artificial waterfall adds to the scenic beauty. Parque Tanguá also plays a crucial role in preserving the northern basin of the Barigui River. The park is home to diverse fauna, including ducks, bats, opossums, armadillos, and various bird species. The flora includes branquilhos, veludos, and araucarias, among others. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as walking, running, and cycling along the park's trails. The park also has a bistro, open daily, and picnic areas. Parque Tanguá is particularly enchanting during the Christmas season when it hosts some of the city's most beautiful spectacles and illuminations.
