Rising high above Rio de Janeiro, the Christ the Redeemer statue is more than just a monument; it's a symbol of faith, hope, and Brazilian identity. Construction began in 1922 and was completed in 1931, costing an equivalent of $3.4 million today, entirely funded by the Catholic community in Brazil.Made of reinforced concrete and clad in soapstone, the statue has withstood the test of time and weather. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations and repairs, including a major restoration in 2010. The most popular way to reach the summit is by taking the Corcovado Train, a historic cogwheel railway that winds its way through the lush Tijuca National Park.
