Lage commissioned a Roman-style mansion as a gift for his wife, Italian opera singer Gabriela Besanzoni, turning the property into a hub for Rio's high society. In 1957, Parque Lage was recognized as a historical and cultural heritage site. In the 1960s, it became a public park, offering walking trails through subtropical forests. Today, the mansion houses the Escola de Artes Visuais (Visual Arts School), hosting exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events.
