Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From downtown Teresópolis, take the 'Soberbo' bus (approximately R$4) towards the park's main entrance, about 6km south of the city. Alternatively, take the more frequent 'Alto' bus and get off at Praçinha do Alto, followed by a 10-minute walk south. Both buses can be caught along Av Almirante Lúcio Meira.

Serra dos Órgãos National Park, a protected area since 1939, is located approximately an hour's drive from Rio de Janeiro, encompassing parts of Teresópolis, Petrópolis, Magé and Guapimirim. The park's name originates from early Portuguese settlers who likened its unique rock formations to organ pipes.The park spans over 20,000 hectares and boasts more than 200 kilometers of trails, catering to various skill levels. These range from accessible suspended trails to challenging multi-day treks like the famous Petrópolis-Teresópolis crossing. Popular trails include the Trilha Cartão Postal (Postcard Trail) and the Trilha Pedra do Sino, which rewards hikers with panoramic views stretching to Rio de Janeiro. Climbers are drawn to iconic peaks such as Dedo de Deus (God's Finger) and Agulha do Diabo (Devil's Needle).The park protects an exceptional landscape and biodiversity, housing over 2,800 plant species, 462 bird species, and a diverse array of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. It serves as a crucial sanctuary for endangered and endemic species. Visitors can also enjoy refreshing natural pools and waterfalls such as Cascatinha do Imbuí.
