Named after the 28th Sultan of Brunei, Omar Ali Saifuddien III, the mosque was built to reflect the glory of Islam. The mosque is not only a place of worship but also a visual masterpiece that attracts admiration from around the globe. The mosque's design was influenced by Mughal architecture from India, with touches of Islamic and Bruneian elements. The mosque is set in the middle of a man-made lagoon, adding to its serene atmosphere. A replica of a 16th-century royal barge, known as the Mahligai Barge, sits on the lagoon and was used for Quran reading competitions. The mosque has hosted many important events in Brunei's history, including royal weddings and national day prayers. Visitors are welcome to explore the mosque's exterior and gardens, but taking pictures inside is not allowed.
