The palace served as a private office for Sultan Omar Ali in 1947. Although the royal family moved to Istana Darul Hana in 1951, Istana Darussalam remained a significant site. Today, Istana Darussalam is under the protection of the Antiquities and Treasure Trove Act.Visitors can appreciate the palace's exterior, characterized by its green and brown facade and traditional Malay design.
