Seria Energy Lab: Sparking Curiosity in Brunei's Energy Sector

Seria Energy Lab (SEL) is located in Seria, Brunei, and stands as a beacon for STEM education in the country. Formerly known as the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC), the center underwent a major renovation and rebranding in 2020 to emphasize its role as a modern science center. The goal is to cultivate innovative, next-generation thinkers who can contribute to Brunei's Vision 2035, which aims to develop well-educated and highly skilled individuals.SEL offers a range of interactive exhibits designed to spark curiosity and provide an immersive learning experience. The exhibitions cover various aspects of energy, including the history of Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP), the unique geology of Brunei, renewable energy sources, and the importance of energy conservation. A highlight is the Aqualab Zone, which features large aquariums showcasing coral reefs and marine ecosystems found beneath oil rigs. Visitors can also enjoy science exhibits with a 'play and learn' concept, making it a fun and educational experience for all ages.In addition to its exhibits, Seria Energy Lab offers various educational science programs for students and the general public. These programs are designed to be interactive and engaging, promoting active participation and enhancing skills needed for the 21st century. The center also hosts events and workshops, such as the Women in Science (WIS) Competition, to encourage young women to pursue STEM fields.
