Tasek Merimbun, Brunei's largest natural lake, is a jewel within the Tasek Merimbun Heritage Park. Located approximately 70 kilometers from Bandar Seri Begawan in the Tutong District, this S-shaped lake is the centerpiece of a 7,800-hectare park. Declared as Brunei's first ASEAN Heritage Park in 1984, it recognizes the area's importance in biodiversity conservation and cultural heritage.The lake's dark waters, a result of tannins released from falling leaves, create a unique 'blackwater' ecosystem. This environment supports a diverse range of flora and fauna, including over 200 species of birds, making it a haven for birdwatchers. The surrounding park boasts various habitats, such as peat swamp forests, mangroves, and lowland mixed dipterocarp forests.Visitors can explore the park's nature trails, enjoy boat rides on the lake, and relax in lakeside gazebos. The park also features Pulau Jeludong, an archaeological site with ancient ancestral remains. The Heritage Park includes a museum that showcases the area's history, wildlife, and handicrafts.     Car

    From Tutong Town, head northwest on Jalan Tutong towards Jalan Kianggeh. Continue on Jalan Kianggeh for about 6 kilometers until you reach the Tasek Merimbun road sign. Turn left onto the access road and follow the signs for approximately 3 kilometers until you arrive at Tasek Merimbun. Parking is available near the lake. There is no entrance fee to access the area.

    Public Transport

    From Tutong Town, take a bus heading towards Bangar. Alight at the junction nearest to Tasek Merimbun; it's advisable to ask the bus driver for the best stop. From the junction, it is approximately a 2-kilometer walk to the lake following the road signs. Bus fares are generally inexpensive in Brunei.

    Taxi/Ride-Hailing Service

    From Tutong Town, a taxi or ride-hailing service offers a direct route to Tasek Merimbun. The drive takes approximately 15 minutes. Confirm the fare before the journey. Expect to pay around BND 15-25 from Labi.
