From Burgas city center, take the A1 highway south. Continue on A1 for approximately 25 km until the exit for Sozopol. Follow signs toward Sozopol, and after 5 km, turn left onto the road to Foros. Follow this road for about 10 km to reach Foros. Parking may be available near the beach, but be mindful of local regulations.

Public Transport

From Burgas Central Bus Station, take a bus to Sozopol. These buses operate frequently, and the trip takes about 30 minutes. In Sozopol, transfer to a local bus or taxi to Foros. Local buses may run every hour, with a 15-20 minute ride to Foros. Bus tickets typically cost around 2-3 BGN. Alternatively, bus line N17 goes to Kraymorie.

Taxi

Consider taking a taxi from Burgas for a direct route. Book a taxi through a local company or use a ridesharing app. The journey takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic, and may cost 30-50 BGN. Confirm the price before starting your journey.

Archaeological research has revealed that Foros was once an ancient and medieval fortress and port, known as Burgos or Poros, which served as a vital part of the Roman and Bulgarian empires. The fortress, built in the 2nd century AD by Emperor Antoninus Pius, guarded the strait of Mandrensko Lake and protected the port of Deultum.Foros's strategic location made it a site of significant historical events, including a major battle in 1304 when Bulgarian Tsar Theodore Svetoslav defeated the Byzantine army. The area is also believed to be the location of the Monastery of St. George, which sheltered the Apostle Andrew during his preaching. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of walls and construction ceramics, imagining the lives of those who once inhabited this ancient stronghold.Beyond its historical significance, Foros offers stunning natural beauty. The serene atmosphere, crystal-clear waters, and lush greenery make it an ideal destination for relaxation and exploration.
