Its main stock includes over 180,000 units, complemented by a library housing over 10,000 volumes of scientific literature and periodicals. The museum's permanent exposition, displayed across 24 halls, is divided into five departments: Archeology, Ethnography, the Bulgarian National Revival and the Ottoman rule, modern history, and nature. The numismatic collection, featuring 25,000 coins, is considered one of the richest in Bulgaria. Visitors can explore artifacts from the Roman city of Ulpia Oescus and the late Roman fortress of Storgozia, including architectural details, mosaics, sculptures, and bronze images. The Antiquity Hall showcases treasures like the Valchitran Thracian gold treasure. Established by the local Archaeological Society in 1903, the museum's roots lie in the discovery and research of historical monuments in the town and region. The museum officially moved to its current building, designed as barracks by an Italian architect, in 1984. Today, the Regional Historical Museum is a scientific and educational institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural and historical heritage of the Pleven region.
