Getting There

Car

From the center of Rila, head northeast on the main road (E-79) towards the Rila Monastery. After approximately 10 km, you will reach the Rila Monastery. From there, take the road leading to Kirilova Polyana Meadow. Follow the signs towards Kirilova Polyana, and after about 3 km, you will arrive at the meadow. Parking is available near the entrance. Parking is free.
Public Transport

To reach Kirilova Polyana Meadow via public transport, start from Sofia. Take a bus from Sofia to Rila Monastery from the Ovcha Kupel bus station. Buses depart frequently. The bus ride typically takes around 2 hours. A one way ticket costs approximately 15 BGN. Upon arrival at the monastery, you can either walk to Kirilova Polyana Meadow (about 3 km) or hire a local taxi for a short ride. Make sure to confirm the taxi fare beforehand, which should typically range between 10-15 BGN.
Walking

If you're already at the Rila Monastery, follow the marked hiking trails leading north from the monastery. The hike is approximately 1.5 hours (5 km) and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and nature. The trail gradually ascends through the forest. Be prepared for a moderate climb. There is also an asphalt road that can be followed.

After 1944, the meadow was renamed Partisan Meadow by the communists, as it served as a hiding place for the Rila-Pirin partisan detachment. However, after the democratic changes in 1989, its original name was restored.Today, Kirilova Polyana remains easily accessible and a popular destination for a day trip. Its proximity to the Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, makes it an ideal stop for tourists exploring the culturally rich region.
